Qantas to add new Boeing 717 aircraft

Australian airline Qantas Airways will add six Boeing 717 aircraft to its fleet over the next three months.
The airline, which will reportedly receive the aircraft in May and June 2002, has stated that the six additional aircraft will create more than 150 jobs within QantasLink for pilots, flight attendants, engineers and operational staff. Qantas will establish a base for the Boeing 717s in Hobart, where up to 80 pilots and flight attendants will be based.
The aircraft will be used to operate new nonstop services to regional Queensland cities. QantasLink will introduce new nonstop services on flights between Sydney and Rockhampton, Proserpine, Mackay, Townsville; Melbourne and Maroochydore; Adelaide and Coolangatta; and Hobart and Coolangatta.
