A 25-year-old has been detained at Suriname's main airport after he allegedly attempted to smuggle cocaine onto a flight.

Immigration authorities stopped the man from boarding a flight to the Netherlands on Monday (19 August) as he was found to be travelling on a forged French passport. The man, a Suriname national, was also found to have swallowed 100 small plastic packages filled with cocaine.

Authorities have not yet charged the man with any crime, reported The Associated Press.
