Italy's civil aviation authority is urging airline operators to check whether fraudulently certified or sub-standard spare parts have been fitted to their aircraft.
The Ente Nazionale per l'Aviazione Civile (ENAC) has ordered the checks following an investigation into the suspected fraudulent sale of second-hand aircraft parts to major airlines. Six people allegedly involved have already been arrested.
Police, FBI and US Federal Aviation Administration investigators, who have seized documents and thousands of aircraft parts, are looking into any possible links between the used parts and past air accidents, reported Reuters.
