Finnair has not purchased any suspect spare parts - report

Airline Industry Information, Feb 1, 2002

AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2002 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

Finnair, the Finnish airline, has said that it has purchased at least one spare part through Panaviation, one of three Italian companies suspected of selling old parts as new or renovated ones with false documents.

Finnair said that although the spare part, which was acquired six years ago, was purchased through the Italian company, it was an original part. The specific part had apparently been sent by the original manufacturer to a Japanese airline and was then transferred, still unused, to Finnair. Although the spare part does not have a set number of usage hours and has been functioning without any problem, Finnair has decided to examine it during the next overhaul of the aircraft in question.

The Finnish airline has been going through all its spare part deliveries over the last decade to find out if any parts had been delivered by the suspected Italian companies.
