Air Canada to expand fleet and routes

Air Canada is planning to expand its low-fare Tango fleet and add nine new destinations and 14 new routes to its summer schedule.

The airline is planning to increase its current fleet of six jet aircraft to 16. It will expand its fleet of six Airbus A320 aircraft to eight, with an eventual total of 13. Eight Boeing 737-200 aircraft will also be added, with more anticipated. All the aircraft are expected to come from Air Canada's existing main fleet.

The new Tango services, starting 1 May 2002, will include Toronto to Kelowna, British Columbia; Quebec City to Toronto; and Winnipeg to Edmonton. The new flights planned for 1 June 2002 include Toronto to Calgary and Victoria and Toronto to Gander, Newfoundland. The carrier is also adding Montreal-Toronto, Montreal-Halifax and Ottawa-Halifax flights, reported Reuters.
