A screener has been suspended following a security breach at San Francisco International Airport earlier this week.

A terminal was evacuated at the airport on 30 January after security guards detected an explosive substance on a passenger's shoes. The security screener reportedly violated standard procedure by returning the man's shoes to him after the test and then leaving to look for a supervisor. The passenger, who apparently believed that he had passed the inspection, had put the shoes back on and left. Officials were forced to clear the boarding area, shutting some 30 gates in the airport's Terminal 3 and delaying numerous flights.

Argenbright Security has suspended the employee, pending an internal review of the incident. The US Federal Aviation Administration will investigate the incident to see if any of its regulations were violated, according to Reuters.
