Reptile smuggler arrested in Japan

A Japanese man who allegedly tried to smuggle 23 turtles and four lizards into Japan on 23 December 2001 has been arrested on suspicion of attempting to smuggle rare species protected by the Washington Treaty.
Hiroto Fujita, aged 48, has told the police that he accepted a request from a Japanese national in Bangkok, Thailand to smuggle the creatures on a flight to Japan for JPY100,000, as he has financial difficulties, reported Kyodo News.
