>TI JAS to cancel international flights from Kansai airport
Airline Industry Information, Jan 28, 2002
AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2002 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD
When the second runway at Narita airport outside Tokyo opens, Japan Air System (JAS) plans to stop operating international flights to and from Kansai International Airport in Osaka Prefecture.
JAS is also considering suspending most of its domestic flights to and from Kansai airport when Tokyo's Haneda airport increases the number of landing slots in July 2002.
The airline, which will integrate business operations with Japan Airlines (JAL) in the autumn, plans to close its office at Kansai airport and commission ground operations to JAL from spring. Kansai airport's high operational costs, such as high landing charges, have been a main factor in the cancellations.
