The Transportation Security Administration (TSA), which oversees security for US commercial airlines, is reportedly developing security programmes for cargo carriers.

The programmes - developed due to rising concern of terrorist attacks - will aim to increase security levels on cargo aircraft, and address issues raised by pilots and security experts. These issues include the location of cargo areas which are often far from passenger terminals where security may not be as tight; access to the cargo aircraft; and late night flights.

The TSA has already banned airlines and freight forwarders, who assemble packages from many different companies, from accepting packages from shippers they are not familiar with.
