AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2002 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

German airline Lufthansa is currently holding talks with aircraft manufacturers Airbus SAS and Boeing Co to purchase ten long-range aircraft. The airline, which ordered 15 Airbus A380 superjumbos in December 2001, is expected to make a decision on the new aircraft later this week.

United Airlines has donated a Boeing 747 engine to the Hiller Aviation Museum in San Carlos, Calif. The JT9D-7J engine - which comes from a Boeing 747-238 aircraft that the airline retired in December 2000 - will be added to an exhibit at the museum, which also includes a complete nose cone from a United Boeing 747 aircraft.

American Airlines customers can earn a chance to win a 2003 Lincoln Navigator, SANYO Fisher electronics, or a trip from American Airlines Vacations when entering the airline's second annual American Way Road Warrior Search. The search can be entered by logging on to http://www.americanwaymag.com/roadwarrior between 1 August and 7 October 2002, or by submitting the official entry form found in issues of the airline's in-flight magazine, American Way.

United Airlines has launched a new fare sale covering travel within the US to/from many markets served by the airline's Chicago and Denver hubs. The sale - which also includes selected destinations in Alaska, Hawaii and Florida - requires tickets to be purchased by 29 July 2002, and all travel must take place by 8 October 2002. An advance purchase of up to 14 days is required, as well as a minimum stay of up to three days.

Delta Air Lines and Virgin Records are offering customers the chance to see Lenny Kravitz live in Los Angeles on 27 August 2002, when they enrol in delta.com e-mail programmes. The airline's "Fly Away with Lenny Kravitz Sweepstakes" is available until 11 August 2002, and offers two grand prize winners a guitar autographed by Kravitz and a package for four including premium concert tickets, backstage passes, round-trip Delta economy class tickets, and two nights accommodation. The first 10,000 new e-mail customers will also receive Kravitz's new CD, 'LENNY'. Further details are available online at http://www.delta.com/flyaway.
