Queen Elizabeth II opened a new GBP32m passenger terminal at Liverpool John Lennon Airport yesterday (25 July).

The Queen met with John Lennon's widow, Yoko Ono, and viewed a life-size bronze statue of the Beatle, complete with his trademark round spectacles and swept back hair. The statue was created by sculptor Tom Murphy.

After a short address by the airport chairman, the queen unveiled a commemorative plaque and signed the airport visitors' book, before leaving for a meeting with former Beatle Paul McCartney at Liverpool's Walker Art Gallery.
