Thunder Bay International Airport, Canada has installed a Face Recognition System (FRS), created by NEXUS Group International Inc's AcSys Biometrics Corp.

Conquest Alliance Group Inc, in agreement with CompuBlox Inc, deployed the AcSys FRS access control solution at the airport for a Transport Canada pilot project. The security system - which will allow the airport to use its resources more efficiently and deploy security personnel more effectively - uses AcSys FRS Entry face recognition.

The system uses proximity cards combined with face recognition to create a highly secure access control system securing the airfield, according to NEXUS. An authorised user swipes the proximity card and is verified by the face recognition system in less than one second. Upon verification, the system unlocks the door.

In testing the system was reportedly found to have a 0% false acceptance rate and a 3.1% false rejection rate.
