Robbers have stolen an estimated GBP2.1m at London's Heathrow Airport after hijacking a security van.

The cash had arrived this morning (19 March) on a South African Airways flight, police said.

Two Asian men in their twenties, one of whom wielded a knife, reportedly stopped a security van in a secure area and forced the driver to drive out of the airport compound and five miles east to Cranford in west London. They then transferred the cash to their own vehicle before escaping. The driver of the security van was unharmed.

The robbery follows a high-profile heist at the airport on 11 February in which raiders stole GBP4.6m from a security van in a secure area.
