American Airlines aircraft slides off runway

Airline Industry Information, March 26, 2002

AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2002 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

An American Airlines aircraft slid off a runway at Eppley Airfield in Omaha, Nebraska on Sunday (24 March) due to snow and sleet.

The aircraft, travelling from St. Louis, reportedly landed smoothly but did not come to an abrupt stop because of ice on the runway. The ice, created by a storm over parts of Nebraska, caused the aircraft to fishtail before stopping.

No injures were caused by the incident, according to The Associated Press.
