US Airways to sell 97 surplus aircraft

AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2002 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD
US Airways is planning to sell 97 surplus aircraft, including related spare engines and spare parts inventory.
The aircraft include 55 Boeing 737-200s, 26 DC-9s and 16 MD-80s. The airline retired all of its DC-9 aircraft in August 2001 and its Boeing 737-200 aircraft in December 2001. It will operate its last MD-80 flight on 1 April.
The decision to sell the surplus aircraft comes after the airline's announcement that it would reduce capacity and streamline the types of aircraft in its fleet, according to The Associated Press.
