Rio Sul, a subsidiary of Brazilian airline Varig, is planning to reduce its fleet and domestic destinations in an effort to cut costs.

The airline is also planning to swap 16 Brazilian-built Embraer aircraft leased from Brazil's National Economic and Social Development Bank (BNDES) - which cost USD150,000 per month - for an unspecified number of larger Boeing 737-700 aircraft.

The airline will receive three Boeing 737-700s in the coming months, Reuters reported.
