Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air have released a set of travel tips for passengers travelling during the Memorial Day weekend.

To save time and avoid lengthy queues, customers travelling on a early flight can check-in the night before via Alaska Airlines' web site, http://www.alaskaair.com. Another option is to check in and print boarding passes at the airlines' Instant Travel Machines.

To avoid delays at security screening checkpoints, passengers should place items such as knives of any size, scissors, fingernail files and other sharp objects in checked baggage only. Passengers should also limit the number of electronic devices taken aboard the aircraft as security screeners may require each item to be turned on before permitting them.

The airlines are advising passengers to arrive at the airport up to two hours before their scheduled departure.
