Security employees at Northern Ireland's main airport suspended their strike action today, following an offer of fresh negotiations.

Some 114 security employees at Belfast International Airport returned to their posts after just four hours of strike action. The members of the Amalgamated Transport and General Workers Union began the strike action at 0400 local time today (8 May) and had given notice of discretionary stoppages over the next ten days by security staff at the airport.

The union called the strike due to a dispute with airport management over pay. The employees, who are paid GBP5.20 an hour with no overtime rates and no sick pay, were offered an extra 18p (GBP0.18) an hour. They are seeking a GBP6.50 per hour, an overtime rate and sick pay, reported PA News.
