An Aeroflot aircraft was searched by US federal agents at John F. Kennedy International Airport after information suggested that radioactive material was on board the flight.
The Russian aircraft was ordered to land far from passenger terminals yesterday (23 October) after it arrived at the airport from Moscow. Officials evacuated the 176 passengers and 12 crew members on board, before conducting a search of the aircraft and passenger luggage.
Nothing suspicious was discovered. Officials briefly detained two passengers for questioning, but released them without charge, reported The Associated Press.
