New Zealand's competition watchdog has revealed that it has held discussions with Air New Zealand and Qantas Airways on the Australian carrier taking a stake in the New Zealand airline.

Three months ago, the Commerce Commission reportedly held several meetings with Qantas on the airline taking a 25% stake in Air New Zealand. The commission has also met with Air Zealand twice to discuss the requirements needed for Qantas to acquire the stake.

The two airlines have revealed that they are holding ongoing negotiations on the agreement, but have yet to finalise any terms.

The agreement is expected to face scrutiny from competition watchdogs in Australia and New Zealand, reported The Associated Press.
