Greece has reportedly asked the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to review its flight safety rating and revise it to the highest level.

The country - which will host the 2004 Athens Olympic Games - was issued a category 2 rating in December 2000 for failing to comply with international standards for oversight of its airline industry and falling short of standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).

However, after a positive report by the ICAO, Greece's Transport Minister has invited an FAA delegation to visit the country to review its flight safety rating, reported Reuters.
