US safety investigators have reportedly altered a report into the 31 October 1994 crash of an American Eagle aircraft which killed all 68 people on board.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has apparently changed contested language in the report concerning the crash of the aircraft, which was made by Avions de Transport Regional (ATR).

The crash was blamed on ice forming on the aircraft, however the NTSB said it was withdrawing language suggesting that ATR and France's civil aviation authority (DGAC) already had detailed knowledge that ice could cause control ailerons to move in an uncontrolled way.

The alteration were made after petitions from ATR and DGAC, and counter petitions from the Air Line Pilots Association, reported Reuters.
