US regional carrier Mesaba Holdings has announced plans to purchase Big Sky Transportation for about USD3.5m.

Under an agreement between the two regional carriers, Mesaba will pay USD2.60 per share for all outstanding Big Sky stock. Mesaba - which will formally launch the tender offer after Big Sky satisfies certain labour conditions - does not expect the transaction to affect its fiscal year 2003 earnings but will add slightly to earnings in fiscal 2004.

The airline is planning to operate Big Sky as a wholly owned subsidiary, reported The Associated Press.
