Malaysia Airlines will replace the potentially defective fuel pumps fitted on three of its Boeing aircraft soon.
The Malaysian Transport Minister has, however, stated that the aircraft are still safe to operate despite the possible defect as the pumps can be switched off. The aircraft - two Boeing 737s and one Boeing 747 - each contain four pumps. Three pumps are needed to operate the aircraft, while the fourth is a spare.
The airline - which has inspected its entire fleet - is expected to receive replacement pumps from US aircraft manufacturer Boeing Co soon, according to the New Straits Times-Management Times.
