GE Aircraft Engines, the aircraft engine business of General Electric Co, has revealed plans to eliminate up to 800 salaried jobs by the end of June.
The cuts amount to about 3% of the unit's workforce and will affect employees around the world. The action has been blamed on the downturn in the airline industry.
According to a company spokesman, GE Aircraft Engines is offering early retirement and voluntary severance packages in an effort to reduce the number of lost jobs.
