AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2003 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

Beijing, China will host the 10th Beijing International Aviation Exhibition from 17-20 September 2003. National delegations from the US, the UK, France, Germany and Italy are expected to attend, along with some 160 companies from 21 countries and regions.

America West Airlines has said that the initial purchasers of USD75m issue price of its Senior Exchangeable Notes due 2008 have exercised their overallotment option and purchased an additional USD11.8m issue price amount of such notes. The aggregate amount due at maturity for these additional notes will be USD34,424,000.

United Airlines has added new features to its self-service EasyCheck-in units. Passengers travelling on international flights from the United States will now be able to use EasyCheck-in and receive their boarding pass. Other new features will help customers affected by flight delays and those that need to check bags after using EasyCheck-in online.

US aircraft manufacturer Boeing Co will reportedly issue layoff notices to some 1,440 employees today (22 August). The 60-day layoff notices, said to be part of continuing employment reductions, will take effect on 24 October 2003.

A number of Mexican airline passengers have been stranded at the Barajas airport in Madrid, Spain for several days this summer while awaiting a flight home. According to Aeromexico, passengers with standby tickets are waiting longer this year because the new US visa regulation requiring a visa for stopovers has increased the demand for direct flights between Mexico and Europe.
