The 35-year-old man had been travelling on a flight from Munich, Germany to Los Angeles, US on 14 August 2003 when he began pounding on the cockpit door, claiming that he needed to speak to the pilot. He reportedly screamed "We all have to die", before being restrained by passengers and crew members.
The aircraft landed safely at Los Angeles International Airport, where the man was arrested. Bail has been set at USD20,000 on the condition that he is released into a psychiatric treatment facility.
