Irish-based no-frills carrier Ryanair is said to be hopeful that a ruling that it received illegal financial aid to set up its Strasbourg, France to London, UK route will be overturned.

Britair, a subsidiary of French national carrier Air France, claims that it was forced to cancel its route between London and Strasbourg in the face of competition and launched an appeal claiming that financial aid given to Ryanair to set up services on the route distorted competition.

However, during an appeal court hearing yesterday (9 December) a state-appointed adviser said that the agreement between Ryanair and the Strasbourg chamber of commerce did not constitute state aid, reported Reuters.
