Aviation regulators have said that US aircraft manufacturers and airlines should begin making quieter aircraft by 2006.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has proposed an updated standard for all new jets and some propeller aircraft to ensure use of the latest available noise-reduction technology that meets international guidelines. The proposal would affect aircraft made after 2005 and require the industry to reduce noise by ten decibels.
The standard does not affect the current fleet and there is currently no requirement to make those aircraft quieter, reported Reuters.
