Singapore Airlines has announced plans to launch a budget airline in the second half of 2004.

The budget carrier, to be called Tiger Airways, will be majority owned by Singapore Airlines and its parent, the Singapore government's investment arm Temasek Holdings Pte Ltd. Tony Ryan, the owner of Ryanair, will also be a partner in the new venture.
