Alitalia forced to cancel services due to strike by air traffic controllers

Italian carrier Alitalia was forced to cancel 92 flights today (9 December) and reschedule dozens more due to a four-hour strike by air traffic controllers.

Air traffic personnel at Milan's airports launched the strike action at 1100 GMT, prompting the carrier to cancel 42 domestic flights and 50 international flights. Alitalia also rescheduled 26 domestic flights and 35 international flights.

The action was expected to affect an estimated 11,000 passengers travelling with Alitalia as well as passengers travelling with other airlines.
