FAA is not adequately overseeing aircraft maintenance facilities - report

The US Transportation Department has stated that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is not adequately overseeing the growing number of maintenance facilities.
Government investigators checked 21 facilities currently repairing commercial aircraft and found that 18 of the facilities were using incorrect aircraft parts and improperly calibrated tools and had outdated manuals.
The department's report stated that the FAA lacked oversight and recommended that it re-evaluate its organisational structure to monitor outsourced maintenance facilities.
The FAA agrees with the findings, reported The Associated Press.
