Russian aviation officials have permitted the resumption of flights to China and parts of southeast Asia after a decline in outbreaks of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS).

The State Civil Aviation Authority had previously suspended all passenger, cargo and postal flights to the region during May, except those operated by national flag carrier Aeroflot. The suspension also applied to Hong Kong and Taiwan.

The Authority will allow the flights to resume, depending on carriers and their preventive measures, Reuters reported.
