A security guard allegedly ignored an alarm about possible explosives in luggage on the Air India flight which exploded in 1985.

During a court hearing, a witness recounted the incident which occurred at Toronto airport. The baggage handler testified that a hand-held explosive "sniffing" device sounded an alarm when a co-worker scanned a heavy suitcase being loaded aboard the aircraft, which exploded killing all 329 people on board. The worker reportedly checked with a security guard who dismissed it as a false alarm.

The witness also revealed that the suspect suitcase did not come from Vancouver, which is where police claim the bomb originated.

Two Sikh separatists have been charged with murder for plotting to destroy the flight. Both have pleaded not guilty, reported Reuters.
