AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2003 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

Parties from both Bahrain and the Philippines are currently negotiating air services agreements covering new frequency entitlements. The Philippine Ambassador Eduardo Pablo Maglaya has revealed that high level talks have been conducted between representatives from the transport authorities of both countries.

Horizon Air will distribute the protein candy bar DETOUR to customers on its flights until the end of October 2003. DETOUR is a protein bar which combines peanuts, caramel and chocolate flavour with 30 grams of whey protein.

From 1 November 2003, Delta Air Lines will provide complimentary audio and video entertainment in all cabins, and will eliminate the USD5 in-flight entertainment fee in economy class. In order to enjoy the onboard audio and video entertainment, customers can bring their own headsets or purchase headsets in-flight for USD2. Customers in first class, BusinessElite and international economy will receive complimentary headsets.

Russian carrier Transaero Airlines has introduced a new weekly flight between Moscow, Russia and Hong Kong. The flight will depart from Moscow every Saturday for Hong Kong's Chek Lap Kok airport, with services flown using a Boeing 767 aircraft.

A congressman whose district includes Baltimore-Washington International Airport has launched "Operation Hero Miles" and has asked airlines to help set up a pool of frequent flyer miles which troops will use to return home on leave. Delta Air Lines has said it will participate, while Southwest Airlines will allow passengers to donate tickets earned through the airline's reward system. Other airlines are said to be considering the plan.

The Wayne County Airport Authority has announced a new programme that offers healthy menu items at restaurants located throughout the new McNamara Terminal/Northwest WorldGateway at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport. The airport teamed up with the Henry Ford Heart and Vascular Institute to evaluate the menus of 13 restaurants located in the McNamara Terminal. Logos have now been placed on restaurant menus and menu boards to indicate foods that meet the Heart Smart, and Heart Smart Sodium criteria.

The Philippine government press undersecretary has reportedly apologised for urinating while drunk on President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo's chartered jet last month. According to the Philippine Star daily, the man allegedly relieved himself near the aircraft's emergency exit, which he apparently mistook for a toilet.
