US commercial aircraft may soon be equipped with anti-missile technology due to fears that terrorists have obtained shoulder-mounted missiles.
Elta Systems Ltd., a unit of state-controlled Israel Aircraft Industries, is hoping to receive approval to install the technology - similar to that being installed on Israeli aircraft - from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in three to six months.
The system, to deflect missiles fired during takeoff or landing, is a joint effort by Elta and US defence company Raytheon Co., reported Reuters.
