The US House reportedly approved a USD60bn aviation bill yesterday (30 October), which will now be sent to the Senate.

However, US air traffic controllers are now said to be looking to the Senate to stop the bill, that could increase the number of privately run air traffic control towers. Democrats do not want the government to privatise the towers as they will not be as closely monitored by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

The four-year bill - strongly backed by the Bush Administration - was approved following a 211-to-207 vote, reported Reuters.
