The relatives of a deceased train operator have filed a lawsuit against the operator of John F. Kennedy International Airport and the train line's contractor following his death.

The 23-year-old man was killed on 27 September 2002 while testing a new rail link to the New York airport. The AirTrain - on which he was the only person - reportedly derailed as it went around a curve. An investigation into the incident claimed that the crash was caused by excessive speed and poor communication between workers.

The relatives have filed the USD100m lawsuit alleging that the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and the contractor working on the rail line did not take proper safety precautions, The Associated Press reported.
