A Northwest Airlines pilot accused of violating federal regulations by attempting to land in Sioux Falls during a severe thunderstorm will attend a hearing in June.

The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is reportedly seeking to ground pilot Michael Hughes for 45 days for trying to land at the airport on 24 June 2003 despite warnings of high winds and funnel clouds. The aircraft later landed in Omaha, Neb.

Hughes is continuing to fly while his appeal of the FAA suspension is pending. A federal administrative law judge for the National Transportation Safety Board will hear the case in Minneapolis on 22 June.
