Qantas Airways plans to launch Singapore budget airline

Australian carrier Qantas Airways has announced plans to launch a Singapore-based budget carrier.

The new airline will be a joint venture with Singapore government investment agency Temasek Holdings and two Singapore businessmen. The owners will invest SGD100m in the new airline, with Qantas Airways taking a 49.9% stake, while Temasek will hold 19% and Singapore businessmen Tony Chew and F.F. Wong would own 21.1% and 10% respectively.

The carrier is expected to start flying this year to Asian cities within five hours of Singapore.
