Australia's Customs Service has reportedly introduced new technology designed to identify fake passports and travellers that may be on terrorist watch lists.

Australia has installed some 400 iA-thenticate units from US company Imaging Automation Inc, which use multiple light sources to examine in detail hundreds of security features on travel documents.

Financial terms of the implementation were not revealed but the units cost between USD5,000 and USD15,000 each, according to The Associated Press.
