An Indiana congressman has pleaded guilty to a misdemeanour charge after bringing a loaded gun to Louisville International Airport in April 2004.

Rep. John Hostettler was given a 60-day suspended sentence for carrying a concealed deadly weapon, as part of a plea bargain. The gun was spotted in Hostettler's briefcase as it passed through an X-ray machine at the airport.

The congressman also agreed to surrender the weapon that was found in his luggage and that he would only be allowed to purchase handguns in Indiana and Washington DC, his two places of residence, reports The Associated Press.
