A false alarm at the check-in desk of Israeli airline El Al saw part of Rome's Leonardo da Vinci airport evacuated.

The alarm was raised after check-in staff became suspicious of a Tel Aviv passenger's shoes on the morning of 11 August 2004.

A spokesperson for the airport said that the alarm was set off by the passenger's 'anti-static' shoes and that the terminal was reopened after just 15 minutes, reports The Associated Press.
