The flight crew of a Cathay Pacific Boeing 747-400 aircraft have been disciplined for what was described as a 'sporty' landing at Hong Kong International Airport in July 2003.

According to the Civil Aviation Authority the pilot and first officer of the aircraft ignored air traffic control's advice and as a result had to make a 60 degree turn to 500 feet above the Pearl River estuary to land on the airport's northern runway.

A spokesperson for Cathay Pacific would only confirm that the pilot and first officer of the aircraft, which was on an early morning flight from Manila, had been disciplined. The Civil Aviation Authority said that both the airline and itself had begun an investigation, reports The Standard.
