A Spanair aircraft that was preparing to depart the Cologne-Bonn airport for Palma de Mallorca was evacuated on Friday (20 August) after smoke was detected in the cabin.
The 169 passengers and six crew members used emergency slides to get out of the MD-83 aircraft and some 24 people were slightly injured in the evacuation.
The source of the smoke was said to be under investigation, with one report suggesting that it was due to a hydraulic problem which caused oil to drip on a hot engine.
