China Eastern Airlines orders Blended Winglets

AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2004 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

China Eastern Airlines has ordered five Blended Winglet shipsets from Aviation Partners Boeing, to be installed on Next Generation Boeing 737-800s that are scheduled for delivery in early 2005.

The winglets are said to improve range by up to 5%, as well as saving fuel, improving performance, reducing engine maintenance costs and providing a range of environmental benefits.

The new aircraft will be operated by China Eastern's Shanxi branch based in Taiyun, and its subsidiary Wuhan Airlines.

Financial details of the contract were not disclosed.
