Vietnamese carrier may launch flights to Spratly islands

Vietnam is reportedly planning to launch commercial flights to the disputed Spratly islands in the South China Sea.

Ownership of the islands is claimed by six nations, namely China, Taiwan, Brunei, Malaysia and the Philippines in addition to Vietnam.

The Vietnamese defence ministry is currently building an airport in the islands and reports have said that Vietnam Airlines Services, an affiliate of the national carrier, intends to fly there.
