No useful information is contained on the flight recorders from the two aircraft that crashed in Russia on Tuesday evening (24 August), it has been claimed.
Vladimir Yakovlev, Russian President Vladimir Putin's envoy for the southern region, said that the tapes switched off immediately. He added that the main theory for the cause of the two crashes, which occurred within minutes of each other, "remains terrorism".
However it was unclear how Yakovlev had obtained his information and Transport Minister Igor Levitin, who is leading the official investigating commission, said that it was too early to state what the cause was, Reuters reported.
The tapes from the flight recorders are still being analysed by experts.
