Singapore Airlines teams up with VeriSign to launch SMS check-in service

AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2004 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD
Singapore International Airlines (SIA) has agreed a deal with infrastructure services firm VeriSign Inc that will enable passengers to check-in over their mobile phones using SMS messaging.
The airline hopes that the new service will reduce waiting times at airports. It is planning to extend the service to all airline group Star Alliance flights and to carriers with which it has agreements.
The service will be available to SIA frequent flyers and registered users of the SIA website flying from 12 cities including Bangkok, Christchurch, Dhaka, Hanoi, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, Penang, Singapore and Taipei.
