A false hijack scare aboard a flight from Miami, USA to Milan, Italy saw the Italian air force scramble fighter jets to intercept the aircraft.
French air traffic control sent the warning which forced the Italian authorities to close Milan's Malpensa international airport for 30 minutes, and police made follow-up checks after the aircraft had landed.
A spokesperson for the Italian aviation authority ENAC said that the Alitalia flight landed without incident on 30 August 2004, reported Reuters.
